Drupal 7 assessment helper

Before you start

  • "Not sure" is always an acceptable answer. We follow up on every submission, so don't let one question stop you.
  • You need to be able to log in to your site as an administrator.

For Drupal 7 we suggest temporarily installing a free module called Audit Export. It adds a set of report pages that list most of what the form asks for.

Please note: Drupal 7 reached end of life in January 2025, so this module (like every Drupal 7 module) is no longer covered by the Drupal security team. It only reads information and shows it to administrators. Remove it when you are done, using the steps at the end of this section.

Step 1: Install the module

  1. Log in to your site as an administrator.
  2. Go to Modules, then click Install new module near the top of the page.
  3. In the Install from a URL box, paste:
    https://ftp.drupal.org/files/projects/audit_export-7.x-1.0.tar.gz
  4. Click Install.
  5. Go back to Modules, find the Audit Export group, tick Audit Export: Audits, and click Save configuration. If you are asked to also enable Audit Export: Core, click Continue.

If you don't see Install new module, your host doesn't allow installing modules from the browser. Ask whoever maintains your site to add the module for you.

Step 2: Run the reports

  1. Go to Reports > Audit Export.
  2. Click Process all and wait for the progress bar to finish.
  3. You will see a list of reports. Open each one named below.

Step 3: Read off your answers

Which version of Drupal?

Where to look: the Site Report, row "Drupal version".
What to do: Choose Drupal 7.

How many fieldable entity bundles?

Where to look: the Content Types and Taxonomy Vocabularies reports.
What to do: Count the rows in each report and add them together. If your site uses Paragraphs, also add the number of paragraph types listed at Structure > Paragraph Bundles.

How many content entities?

Where to look: the Content Types, Taxonomy Vocabularies, and Active Users reports.
What to do: Add up the published and unpublished nodes, the "Count of Terms" column, and the number of users. A rough total is fine.

How many contributed modules are enabled?

Where to look: the Modules Enabled report.
What to do: Count the rows where Type is "Contributed" and Status is "Enabled".

Does your site use Drupal Commerce?

Where to look: the Site Report, row "E-commerce".
What to do: If it says "Enabled", tick Drupal Commerce on the form (or tell us which shop module you use in the notes box).

Is your code in a Git repository?

Where to look: the Site Report, row "Git version control".
What to do: If it says Git was detected, choose Yes. If not, choose Not sure; some hosting setups hide this from the report.

What does your site use for search?

Where to look: the Modules Enabled report.
What to do: Look for "Search" (Drupal core search), "Search API", "Solr", or "Elasticsearch".

Content workflows or moderation?

Where to look: the Modules Enabled report.
What to do: Look for "Workbench Moderation" or "Workflow". If neither is enabled, choose No.

Is your site multilingual?

Where to look: Configuration > Regional and language > Languages.
What to do: Count the languages listed. If that page doesn't exist, choose No.

Modules with no Drupal 11 upgrade path: no report can tell you this directly. Choose Not sure, then save the Modules Enabled page as a PDF (in your browser, choose Print, then Save as PDF) and upload it using the Upload your site reports field on the assessment form. We'll work it out for you.

Step 4: Remove the module

  1. Go to Modules, untick Audit Export: Audits, and click Save configuration. Then untick Audit Export: Core and save again.
  2. Click the Uninstall tab, tick both Audit Export modules, and click Uninstall.

Uninstalling leaves a few small, inactive leftovers in your site's database (one empty table and a handful of settings). They do no harm, and we remove them as part of any upgrade.
