HTML and CSS are the foundation of the modern web. This workshop teaches the basic principles of modern HTML and CSS, including introductions into HTML5 and CSS3.
In the first half of the workshop students will learn the fundamentals of HTML tags, elements, and attributes, with a focus on best practices and the underlying concept of semantic markup. The material is presented as a series of more than 10 examples, each one increasing the complexity and/or introducing new topics.
The CSS portion of the workshop is divided into three areas. First, the various ways to inject CSS onto a page is presented, along with the pros and cons for each, as well as the importance of separating content from presentation. Next, an emphasis on the "C" in CSS ("cascading") is covered, demonstrating how various CSS rules can overlap, override, and complement each other. Finally, an introduction into advanced CSS topics including the box model and positioning is demonstrated.
This workshop can be presented either as a single full-day workshop or two half-day workshops.
A strong interest into learning the fundamental display mechanisms for modern web sites.
